Jabatan Peguam Negara Function Hall Audio Visual Upgrade

Dewan Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusuf is a Large Function Hall located at Level 3 of Jabatan Peguam Negara Malaysia in Putrajaya. The function hall serves as a prestigious function hall within Malaysia’s Attorney General’s Chambers. The venue regularly hosts official government functions, legal symposiums, inter-agency meetings, professional development programmed, and ceremonial events. As event expectations evolved and hybrid conferencing became increasingly important, the hall’s ageing analogue audio-visual infrastructure no longer met operational requirements. A comprehensive AV upgrade was therefore initiated to deliver a modern, high-performance event environment befitting a key federal institution.

JKR Putrajaya was entrusted with revitalizing the auditorium design, beginning with a structured sound system concept and integrating video display technology, LED stage lighting, architectural lighting, and intelligent control systems into a unified platform.

Artistic Controls was awarded to provide the complete AV solution, including the installation of a new fine-pitch LED video wall. The project aimed not merely to replace equipment but to redefine the hall’s technical capability and elevate its functionality for years to come.

A New AV System For the Function Hall Venue

Dewan Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusuf is a 120-seat function hall designed to accommodate conferences, presentations, workshops, and official gatherings. The upgrade included the transition from analogue to digital sound processing, replacement of the aged projection display with a high-resolution LED video wall, installation of new LED stage lighting and moving heads, implementation of a modern architectural dimming system, and complete renewal of audio-visual cabling infrastructure.

The Challenges

Modernizing a functioning government auditorium presented several challenges. The installation had to be carefully scheduled to minimize disruption to ongoing official activities. Acoustic limitations within the existing structure required precise system tuning to prevent echo and uneven sound distribution. Integration of multiple subsystems including audio, video, lighting, conferencing, and control demanded meticulous engineering to ensure compatibility and operational simplicity.

The project required us to maintained the number of downlight but still able to achieve the lux output from just replace the source from halogen to led bulb. We also need to replaced legacy dimmer-based lighting infrastructure with a fully digital network while maintaining electrical safety and compliance. Additionally, structured cabling needed complete renewal to support high-bandwidth digital signals and future scalability.

Another challenge involved ensuring compatibility between multiple AV subsystems, including projection, video conferencing, lighting, and audio routing. Integration complexity can often result in operational inefficiencies if not carefully engineered.

The Solutions

A phased implementation strategy was adopted to ensure uninterrupted hall operations. The transition to a digital audio architecture provided greater processing control and improved reliability. Strategic speaker placement and system calibration resolved acoustic inconsistencies and delivered uniform coverage.

The lighting system was redesigned with direct power distribution and DMX integration, eliminating outdated dimmer constraints and enabling advanced programming capability. Centralized control integration unified all AV components under one intuitive platform, simplifying operation for technical staff.

The installation of new structured cabling infrastructure ensures long-term system stability and expandability. Every subsystem was carefully commissioned and tested to guarantee seamless interaction and consistent performance.

A centralized control architecture using Crestron Control was implemented to unify all systems. Operators can now manage audio levels, video switching, lighting presets, and conferencing settings from a single interface, significantly reducing the risk of technical errors during live events.

Sound System Upgrade – From Analogue to Digital System

Clear and intelligible audio is critical in any legal or governmental setting. The previous analogue system offered limited control and inconsistent coverage, particularly during panel discussions and interactive sessions. To address this, a 32-channel digital mixing console from Midas was installed, providing enhanced signal processing, scene recall capability, and flexible routing.

A dedicated stage box positioned at the stage ensures clean signal transmission while reducing cabling clutter. The digital platform allows precise equalization, improved feedback control, and seamless integration with conferencing systems.

To ensure reliable wireless microphone performance throughout the hall, two Sennheiser directional antennas were installed together with an active splitter and signal booster. This configuration strengthens RF signal distribution and guarantees consistent coverage across the venue, minimizing dropouts and interference during official events. The system is complemented by seven Sennheiser EW 100 G4 wireless microphones, providing flexible handheld and bodypack options for speakers, panel discussions, and formal proceedings. This setup ensures stable, professional-grade wireless audio performance suitable for high-level government functions.

New G-Acoustic 12" fullrange speaker and subwoofer to replace the old speaker. The immersive surround sound configuration now delivers balanced audio distribution throughout the venue, significantly improving speech intelligibility and overall listening experience.

Stage Lighting System – LED Spotlights

The lighting infrastructure required a comprehensive overhaul. The existing dimmer packs were removed, and the rack was converted to direct non-dim power distribution. A DMX distributor and merger were installed to integrate all fixtures into a seamless digital network.

All conventional luminaires were replaced with energy-efficient LED fixtures, including cyclorama, profile, Fresnel, and PAR units. Six beam moving head fixtures with wide zoom capability were introduced to provide dynamic effects and adaptable stage lighting suitable for conferences, ceremonies, and multimedia events.

The system is controlled via the Zero 88 FLX, a 2048-channel programmable desk capable of wireless operation. Lighting adjustments and focusing can be performed through mobile devices, improving efficiency during setup and rehearsals. The integrated DMX network ensures system stability and scalability for future expansion.

Architectural House Dimming Lighting System

To enhance ambience and energy efficiency, the house lighting was upgraded with Retrofit Downlight with Osram COB LED bulb featuring a 40-degree beam angle. A Zero 88 Chilli 12 x 10A dimmer system was installed alongside a 10-button control panel. Through RS232 integration with the Crestron control platform, the house lighting can be managed via iPad or central control interface, allowing smooth transitions between event modes.

This integration ensures that lighting scenes align seamlessly with presentation, conferencing, or banquet settings.

LED Video Wall - A High-Impact Visual Display

A defining feature of the upgrade is the installation of a 4.3 metre by 2.4 metre fine-pitch LED video wall positioned at the stage area. The previous display system had become outdated and lacked brightness and clarity. The new 1.2mm pixel pitch LED wall delivers exceptional image sharpness, making it ideal for detailed legal presentations, graphics, and video conferencing content.

The LED wall integrates harmoniously with the hall's interior architecture. To enhance versatility, two additional short-throw Epson EB-700U projectors were installed, enabling seamless display integration and flexible content routing depending on event configuration.

As part of the upgrade is the video signal distribution infrastructure, an 8x8 4K HDMI matrix switcher from Key Digital was deployed to replace the legacy VGA routing system. Multiple 4K HDMI extenders, also from Key Digital, were installed at strategic locations throughout the hall to ensure high-resolution signal transmission over extended distances without degradation. This upgrade eliminated analogue VGA limitations, improved image clarity, and provided flexible source routing for laptops, conferencing systems, and media playback devices.

The seamless visual presentation enhances audience engagement and reinforces the professional atmosphere of the venue.

Delivering a High-Performance Event Space

With the upgrade work done, Dewan Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusuf hall is proud to have a professional AV upgrade with state-of-the-art function hall within Jabatan Peguam Negara Putrajaya. The collaboration between JKR Putrajaya’s auditorium vision and Artistic Controls’ AV expertise has successfully delivered a modern, fully integrated environment capable of supporting official government functions, hybrid conferences, and multimedia-rich events.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful design, careful engineering, and professional installation can transform an institutional venue into a technologically advanced event space that upholds the prestige and operational standards of Malaysia’s Attorney General’s Chambers.
